Oresteia
I started working Aeschylus’ ‘‘Oresteia’’ as a project for my scenography course but soon I realised I was designing an art installation rather than a theatre scene and I was really intrigued to see my ideas come true as real size artworks.
The basic concept of the installation is that each character of the Aeschylus’ trilogy is symbolized by a sclupture. The symbol-sculptures contain the heroes’ role in the story and their archetypal significance.
I use foam because it is a light, soft and squeezable material which fits the idea of these sculptures as theatrical props as well as the concept’s ‘‘surrealism’’ but also contradicts the story’s cruelty.
